How to Address Your Wedding Invitations
By Credo Pointe

When planning your wedding, every detail matters—including how you address your invitations. It may seem like a small task, but properly addressing your envelopes sets the tone for your big day and shows your guests just how much you care.

At Credo Pointe, we believe the beauty is in the details—and your invitations are the very first glimpse your guests will have of your wedding experience.

Why Proper Addressing MattersYour wedding invitation is more than just information—it’s a reflection of your style, your formality, and your attention to detail. Whether your event is a classic, formal celebration or a relaxed countryside gathering, how you address your envelopes helps communicate what guests can expect.

Traditional vs. Modern StylesBefore you start writing (or printing), decide which style fits your wedding best:

Traditional (Formal)
  • Uses full names and titles
  • Written out completely (no abbreviations)
  • Example:
    Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Smith
Modern (Casual)
  • More relaxed and flexible
  • First names may be used depending on your relationship
  • Example:
    Emily & Jake
At Credo Pointe, we often see couples blend both—keeping a polished look while still feeling personal and warm.

Addressing Married CouplesFor married couples, traditional etiquette suggests:
  • Same last name:
    Mr. and Mrs. David Johnson
  • Different last names:
Ms. Sarah Williams and Mr. David Johnson
Addressing Families
If children are invited, include their names:
  • Formal:
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brown and Family
(or list children’s names on the inner envelope)
  • Modern:
    The Brown Family
If the wedding is adults only, be sure to clearly address only those invited.
Addressing Single Guests
  • Ms. Lauren Carter
  • Mr. James Lee
If they are allowed a guest:
  • Ms. Lauren Carter and Guest
Addressing Unmarried CouplesList both names on separate lines or the same line:
  • Ms. Emily Davis and Mr. Michael Reed

Tips for a Beautiful Presentation✨ Use consistent formatting throughout

✨ Double-check spelling (this matters more than you think!)
✨ Consider calligraphy or printed labels for a polished look
✨ Match your envelope style to your overall wedding aesthetic

A Thoughtful Touch Goes a Long WayTaking the time to properly address your invitations shows intention, care, and respect for your guests. It’s one of those small details that creates a big impression.

At Credo Pointe, we love helping couples think through every part of their wedding journey—from the first invitation sent to the final dance of the evening.
